I was previously known as Fight The Light because of how poor lighting could be at various live gigs, plus it pissed off those who didn't get the metaphoric double entendre, as I'm a lover of provocative, sociopolitical and editorial photography. While I enjoy beautiful aesthetics as any photographer does, I prefer images that are quirky, kitsch, unusual and/or provoke and engage, the kind of narratives that ask questions but don't dictate answers. Discovering photographers like David Lachapelle helped me find something tangible that represented what inspired my love of visual expression; images that prod, and are bold, colourful, or just simply fun! While I'm pretty well versed in lighting techniques, I like hard light, candid vibes, anything that conveys a narrative more realistically than precision control can, because I accept that the most powerful tool in a photographers arsenal is lighting that matches the narrative - you shouldn't over polish the patina out of something that has more character and story telling history with it intact. I believe that a photographer's identity is not what they do right, but what they choose to do 'wrong'. I know my way around Photoshop, but I'm not a fan of using it to construct fake narratives. In my photography mind, fantasy should be something shot in camera, and retouching is a tool that pushes images in to the realm of the standards that are expected in publication.. assuming - as suggested - it doesn't void the narrative of course. Digital art and photography are two very different genres that can coexist, and they are merely tools for different types of artist. A digital artist isn't necessarily a good photographer, and vice versa. If you fancy booking me for any portrait, editorial or model based commissions, then please drop me a message via the contact page, and describe what it is that you're hoping to achieve. All images on this site are shot by me, so just about anything within those genres is up for grabs and of interest, plus of course most model / fashion / commercial and editorial looks. I'm not interested in weddings and family photography, and I hire out my studio so that I don't feel obliged to shoot commissions that are of no interest - so if you have me hooked, I'm all in! Check out the tour tab for more of my work that is less risqué and solely based at Splash Point Photo. All images on this site are shot by myself, except for those on studio day flyers.
